Target Assignment¶
This section explains how target assignment works. Basic principles are that:
Only SPICE-known natural solar system’s body can be assigned for computation (eg: BEAGLE-2 is not a valid observation target).
SPICE-unknown target (eg: SOLAR WIND) can be automatically superseded by a primary target defined for a given mission (MARS for the Mars Express mission).
A target name can be forced for computation, using the
--forced-target
option.
The following diagram shows the flow for assigning a valid observation target name from an input PDS target name.
